About This Program

The Post-Master of Science in Nursing: Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate prepares experienced professional nurses for advanced practice as primary care providers. The family nurse practitioner program (FNP) prepares learners to make independent critical decisions in all levels of prevention, including health promotion; illness prevention; and diagnosis and management for individuals, families, communities, and populations. The FNP learner performs comprehensive health assessments, implements diagnosis and disease management, and prescribes pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatments to manage acute and chronic health problems to achieve quality, cost-effective outcomes in a culturally sensitive environment. The FNP program equips learners to take on roles that involve educating, consulting, collaborating, applying evidence-based practices for clinical decision-making, and influencing both professional and public policies. Within various practice settings, the FNP learner provides health care for clients across the life span. This program includes 750 hours of directly supervised clinical practice with qualified preceptors and two separate on- campus experiences.
