Course Description

This course examines the main issues in the study of linguistic code-switching, which is commonly defined as the fluid alternation of two languages in the same discourse by a bilingual speaker. Topics include: (i) conceptual and methodological issues in the study of code-switching; (ii) sociolinguistic aspects of code-switching, including language attitudes and community norms; (iii) and grammatical aspects of code-switching, with a focus on structural constraints and syntactic patterns.
