PSY-452

Experimental Psychology

Grand Canyon University 4 credits Psychology

Course Description

This course introduces students to the fundamental principles and methods of experimental psychology, with a focus on understanding the scientific process as it applies to psychological research. Students explore a variety of research designs, including true experiments, quasi-experiments, and correlational studies, as well as basic data collection techniques such as surveys, behavioral observations, and physiological measures. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, ethical research practices, and the application of methodological concepts to real-world psychological questions. The course culminates in the development of an APA-style research paper in which students formulate their own research question, conduct a literature review, and write a detailed methods section outlining how they would hypothetically investigate their topic using appropriate psychological research methods. Prerequisite: PSY-380.
