University at Buffalo 3 credits Management Finance
This course is intended for MS in Management students and MSF students who do not have a Finance background, or have not taken a Finance course, to gain basic concepts, principles, and skills to serve as a necessary foundation for the more advanced learning and understanding in a course such as MGF 633. 4+1 students may not find the course valuable since they have taken Finance courses in their undergraduate studies. This course explores foundational topics of financial analysis for corporations. It provides an overview of the financial structure of corporations and the roles of corporate stakeholders (e.g., stockholders, creditors, management, and board of directors). The course exposes students to the structure and principles of financial reports (e.g., the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows) that are used in reporting the financial condition and performance of corporations. It also covers the basic concepts and skills for financial planning, management, and analysis, including time value of money, capital budgeting, relationship between expected return and risk, and working capital management.
