Grand Canyon University 4 credits Computer Science

Course Description

This course introduces the concepts of Computer Organization as a prerequisite for Computer Architecture. Computer organization refers to the way the hardware components are utilized to form a computer system. It covers the hardware details not seen by the programmer, such as digital circuit designs, computer hardware control, types of memories, I/O devices, and the manner in which they are designed, etc. It presents formally, combinational logic design, sequential logical design, digital building blocks, and introduces hardware description languages. A brief introduction to networking gives students an elementary foundation of UDP and TCP/IP protocols. A hardware board with a microcontroller chip is used to reinforce hands-on experience as well as some software tools to help in understanding hardware description languages. Prerequisite: CST-215.
