Advanced Etching

Temple University 3 credits ART

Course Description

This course will build on students' basic working knowledge of the process and history of etching. Etching, or Intaglio, has the distinction of being a holistic product of the European Enlightenment, emerging from innovations in craft, politics, science, and economics, while also bearing direct and obvious connections to global indigenous practices of engraving and relief carving dating back to tens of thousands of years. Course projects will introduce students to advance techniques including multi-plate color printing, chine colle, spit-bite, softground, experimental methods, as well as laser and CNC engraving. Advanced students will develop their own unique creative vision in community with their peers.
