Virtual Worlds: Creative Computing

Temple University 3 credits ART

Course Description

How does virtual space change our perception of time, movement, and objects? This course introduces art students to virtual reality (VR) as an expressive medium. Students will explore the artistic potential of VR and coding using VR drawing tools, game design software and AI-assisted coding. Over the course of the semester students will create immersive, interactive VR artworks of their own design. Students will acquire an advanced set of applied skills covering the workflows that support VR technologies and creative coding practices, moving from idea to finalized artwork. Students will interrogate the ethical and artistic potential of VR to develop innovative, creative projects that deepen and broaden their vocabulary as artists, while learning a sense of critical awareness of their digital heritage.
