AER-445

Aircraft Structures and Aeroelasticity

Grand Canyon University 3 credits Aeronautical Engineering

Course Description

This course examines the principles of aircraft structures, addressing the interplay between aerodynamic forces and aeroelasticity. Students explore both static and dynamic issues, including control and lift effectiveness, divergence, flutter, vibration, the behavior of different materials under various loads, and how to apply this knowledge to ensure the structural integrity of aircraft components. Students use dynamic structural models and hands-on exercises to create and analyze aeroelastic models of wings and implement basic controllers to simulate their responses. Topics include fundamentals of structural analysis, stress analysis of aircraft components, calculating unsteady loads, ensuring turbine design integrity, dynamic wake/inflow models, unsteady 2D aerodynamics, rotor structures, and stability analysis. Prerequisites: MEE-340, MEE-340L, and MEE-352.
